Dong Rung Van Ho Cooperative

Highlights

Dong Rung Van Ho Cooperative operates in Ban Bo, Chieng Yen commune, Van Ho district, Son La province (old) — where 59 households with more than 200 people jointly build “Heritage Agricultural Village” with the companionship of Agritage Vietnam Social Enterprise.

Dong Rong Van Ho Cooperative has developed the Dong Rong Agricultural Products brand with two typical product lines: Dong Rong Bearded Rice and Dong Rong Native Seeds. The villagers both use the ancient knowledge of the Thai and Muong people in the way to bring water from the stream to the field for irrigation through the system of ditches and bamboo pipes, and use native plants that grow naturally around the village such as oval trees, pelargonium, chili, garlic, ginger to create biological pesticides and commit to agricultural cultivation according to organic standards PGS – Particicipatory monitoring system.

Besides, the landscape environment here is imprinted with indigenous marks with old forests, natural fish springs, native vegetation and a system of gardens and forests that improve the slope — creating a unique experience of both agriculture and ecology. The cooperative also prioritizes the development of local human resources (70% are indigenous people) and the close connection between production – conservation – community.

There are also wild bamboo shoots, peanuts, sticky corn, black beans… all of which are produced organically, keeping their natural flavor. Not only a specialty, this is also a testament to people’s efforts in preserving land, water, and sustainable farming traditions.

4. Community story – The journey from difficulty to change

In the past, people faced many difficulties in the production and consumption of agricultural products. But thanks to the establishment of cooperatives and the development of community tourism, life has flourished: roads, electricity, stable income from tourism and clean agriculture. Coming here, visitors not only visit, but also directly contribute to the development of the village – a journey with deep human significance.
